Trouser Alterations

For trousers that are loose or tight at the waist, we can quickly and effectively reduce or increase the size by adjusting the centre back seam. After a fitting with our Master Tailor, we can also determine the perfect shape of the seat and raise or let down the fork when necessary.

For a closer fit and neater silhouette, we taper (narrow) trousers either fully or partly. For a subtle taper, we remove excess fabric from the inside leg seam. For a more drastic change, we can reduce the leg width by removing fabric from both the inside and outside leg seams.

We shorten trousers by hand so that the stitching is invisible from the outside. Additionally, we can replace belt loops with more traditional side adjusters, using excess fabric from the hem of the trousers for a seamless and polished finish.

Coat / Jacket Alterations

Our Master Tailors have the expertise to alter your coat or jacket to achieve the perfect fit. To improve the fit of your coat or jacket, we can take in the side seams or rear centre seam for a flattering silhouette. We can also shorten the length of your coat or sleeves, ensuring the original stitch pattern, thread colour, and any detailing are perfectly matched.

When shortening the sleeves of a coat, we offer two options: shortening from the crown (shoulder) or from the sleeve end. With over 40 years of experience, we recommend shortening from the crown as the most effective way of achieving a flawless result. Working from the shoulder ensures that the cuff details or ‘shams’ are not disturbed, preserving the original design and proportions of the coat or jacket.

We can also narrow or ‘chip’ the shoulders of a jacket or coat for a neater fit, or add pads to define the silhouette or correct a dropped shoulder. If there’s a ripple of excess fabric across the back neck area, or a ‘square back neck’, we can remove it by opening the back neck and shoulder seam, lifting the excess fabric, and re-stitching it to restore a more complementary fit on the body.

If your jacket or coat has a worn lining, we can replace it with a closely resembling colour or a colour of your choice, adding more pockets or details at your request. Zip replacements and button changes are, of course, basic alterations we are happy to perform.

Shirt Alterations

If you’re not satisfied with the general fit of your shirt, there are a number of possible shirt alterations to improve it. Shirt sleeves can easily be shortened by removing the cuff, cutting down the sleeve, and reattaching it. This can even be done from the shoulder if you want to maintain the length of the placket. Additionally, sleeves with double cuffs can also be lengthened slightly, as there is typically at least half an inch of inlay, which can provide that crucial exposure of cuff at the end of a jacket’s sleeve.

Darts can be added to the body of the shirt to narrow it at the waist. Depending on the run of the fabric, this alteration can also adjust the hips and a bit of the chest, removing any excess fabric that may be unflattering or uncomfortable, giving your shirt a more tailored, streamlined appearance.
