How to refresh your wardrobe for 2023

How to refresh your wardrobe for 2023

Updating your wardrobe

A new year brings fresh opportunities for new beginnings, and many people look for ways they can change things up for a fresh start. Over the years we end up buying new pieces of clothing and our wardrobe becomes overwhelming and actually can make it harder to choose what you want to wear. Instead of struggling through all of the stuff you have, step into the new year with a wardrobe only with items you truly love and will love. We’ve put this blog together to help you clear out and improve your wardrobe in just a few simple steps.

Evaluate what you have

Before you think about getting anything new or suddenly getting rid of everything, you need to evaluate what you already have. Get everything out of your wardrobe and create three piles: keep, recycle and remove. Your keep pile will be everything you still wear and feel like you’ll continue to wear, making sure to be harsh with your decisions of what to keep. Don’t fall into the trap of thinking you might wear this top that you haven’t worn for two years or those jeans that no longer fit you, it’s best to get rid of things that are taking up unnecessary space.

Recycle

Your second pile is all the clothing that you’ll be recycling by creating new items for your wardrobe. This is whatever you no longer wear or doesn’t fit you properly, but has potential to be altered back to your size or turned into something new. Alterations are a great way to revamp your wardrobe without having to spend a lot of money on new items. It’s also a lot more environmentally friendly, and gives you the option to be experimental with your clothes. Take the items you plan on recycling down to your local seamstress and they will be able to work with you and decide what exactly you should do with the clothing.

Remove

Any of your old clothing that you don’t wear and don’t feel like can be used to create anything you want to wear will go into your remove pile. This is anything in your wardrobe that needs to be removed from your house and stop taking up so much space. Clothing that isn’t damaged or torn can be donated to your local charity shop and sold on to help raise money. Something you won’t wear could be the perfect item for another person, and you’re helping a good cause at the same time. This makes clearing out your wardrobe a loss less wasteful than if you were just to throw everything out.

Updating your wardrobe doesn’t have to be an expensive or wasteful task. Instead of just thinking you need to purchase new clothing and filling your wardrobe even more, you can follow these steps and have a revamped wardrobe ready for the new year.
