Three steps to being fashionably warm
We’ve all made the mistake of prioritising how we look over being warm. It’s always good to look good, but not so nice if you spend the entire time freezing wishing you’d worn something else. The good news is there’s a way to be warm and look great while doing it, so there’s no more sacrificing one for the other! Keep reading for our three steps to being fashionably warm.
Step one: layer up
In the colder months layering will be your best friend, and this doesn’t just mean throwing a cosy jumper on top of a t-shirt, you need to start with base layers. Base layers should be thin and fitted to your body, this is because they then trap warm air in closer to you and help to keep your body temperature up. Next you move on to secondary layers, which should also be thin and fitted. These help to further trap the heat in giving you the perfect base to then style on top of and make sure you’re staying nice and warm.
Top tip - wear flesh tone thick leggings under black tights to give the appearance of only having one pair of tights on while keeping your legs nice and warm.
Step two: choose wisely
When your base layers are done it’s time to choose what you’ll be wearing on top of them. While your base layers are a great start, this doesn’t mean you don’t have to think about warmth when choosing the rest of your outfit. You want to make sure you’ve got some staple woolly jumpers in your wardrobe to put on top of your base layers, and some nice thick bottoms. The best thing about a jumper is it can be dressed up or down and there’s so many styles you should be able to find one for any occasion. Jumper dresses are also a great option, as long as you follow the above tights hack!
Top tip - if you’re wanting to dress a jumper up, wear a white shirt underneath and have the collar showing through.
Step three: finishing touches
Your finishing touches to your outfit includes your coat, an absolute must have for the colder weather! Opt for something stylish but still warm and cosy. Your coat is the final layer and will keep all the nice warm air you’ve already trapped with your previous layers in, so you’ll be nice and warm all day long! You also don’t want to forget about your hat, scarf, and gloves. The less skin you have out facing the elements the better, again working to trap that warm air in.
Top tip - hats, scarves and gloves don’t have to be boring! Opt for some matching sets in different colours so you can use them to accessorise your outfit.
Being warm doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice your style. Follow these tips and you’ll be able to look your best without suffering through the cold!
